Second International Youth Competition for Amateur Pianists «Claviarium»

National Research University  —  Higher School of Economics (Moscow, Russia) announces the Second International Youth Competition for Amateur Pianists «Claviarium» that will be held in the Great Hall of the Cultural Centre of HSE on 20—25 April 2012.

We invite amateur pianists aged 18-35 to participate in the Competition.

«Steinway & Sons» will provide a Steinway grand piano for auditions.

Competitors’ age limit

The competition is open to participants aged 18—35 as of the first day of the competition.

Eligibility

The contest is for amateur pianists only. Professional musicians (employed in a musical activity), music departments students of specialized College-level or Higher Education Institutions are not allowed to take part in the competition.

The participants can enter the competition as Amateur (Am) or Grand amateur (GrAm) contestants.

Please note:

«GrAm» category are those who received specialized College-level or unfinished Higher musical education in the past.

«Am» category comprises participants who did not receive specialized secondary or higher musical education. Graduates of music departments of College-level or Higher Education Institutions are not eligible to participate.

The Organization Committee of the Competition determines which category participants («GrAm» or «Am») belong to. The participant who disagrees with the decision of the committee may submit a well-grounded objection to the Organization Committee. Amateur (Am) contestants may perform as Grand amateurs (GrAm), but not vice versa.

The Organization Committee makes the final decision.

Repertoire

The participants have a free choice of any repertoire. No specific requirements apply. The time limits are as follows:

  • 10-15 minutes(Am), 15-25 minutes(GrAm) in the first round;
  • 15-25 minutes(Am), 25-40 minutes(GrAm) in the final round.

Grand piano

Participants will perform on a Steinway grand piano provided by the company «Steinway & Sons».

Jury

The International Jury is comprised of world class musicians.
The Head of the Jury is Andrei Diev.
The Jury’s members are Philip Fowke and Jeroen van Veen.
2 other Jury members will be announced later.

The Jury's decisions are final and irrevocable.

Master classes

Jury members will give master classes to those who will not perform in the finals.

Prizes

The prizes are as follows:
«GrAm» category
  1. 55,000 roubles
  2. 45,000 roubles
  3. 35,000 roubles
«Am» category
  1. 50,000 roubles
  2. 40,000 roubles
  3. 30,000 roubles

Expenses

The participants will be rendered accommodation during the participation in the Competition.

Confidentiality

Access to the data that you provide in your registration application is restricted to the organizers of the Competition. Confidentiality of private data is guaranteed by the Russian law.

Registration

On-line registration is open until 20th March 2012.

The registration fee is 1,500 roubles. The fee is to be paid on arrival.

The organizers reserve the right to reject an application if it contains incomplete or wrong information. Registration fee, application form, and other materials are non-refundable.
